Vegetarian World Guides Projects in Development

It's a simple fact: the world needs more vegetarian travel guides! There are a number of great guides to England and Europe (not all of them available in the United States, unfortunately), but an incredible dearth of vegetarian travel guides to popular destinations here in the US.

To remedy this situation, we're hard at work expanding our series, with two books currently in production and many more on the drawing board.

Vegetarian America: The Diet-Savvy Guide to Top US Vacation Destinations

Wondering where to find a great meatless meal in Yellowstone National Park or Colonial Willamsburg? Thinking about a romantic bed and breakfast tour of New England, but don't know which places cater to vegetarians and vegans? Bracing yourself for two weeks of tossed salads and baked potatoes as you vacation in North Carolina's Outer Banks?

Forget your worries and leave the research to us! In January we began work on Vegetarian America: the Diet-Savvy Guide to Top US Vacation Destinations. Due out in early 2003, Vegetarian America will be the first vegetarian guide to the most popular tourist destinations in the country. In addition to covering American cities (where it's easy to find decent veggie meals), the guide will include in-depth chapters on popular national parks, beach resorts, and amusement areas -- places where finding ANYTHING to eat can be a chore. And instead of only listing places to eat, the guide will point readers toward the best places to spend the night and shop in each destination, too.

Like any travel guide, we'll also include information about the most popular tourist attractions -- museums, theaters, shopping districts, and so on -- in each destination. We'll also profile a number of alternative attractions -- places we think you might like to check out, like animal and bird sanctuaries, organic farms and wineries, environmental preserves, parks and wildlife refuges, retreat centers and alternative education centers, and lots of fun and funky places to shop that feature cruelty free and free-trade products.

We're working with dozens of local experts to find hidden treasures -- restaurants, inns, markets and tourist attractions -- in each destination. Our goal is nothing short of providing a new, alternative way to see the United States, with delicious vegetarian meals at every stop!

We'll have more detailed information available soon, but for now, check out our List of Included Destinations.

If you’re interested in contributing to the guide, know of a restaurant, inn or market you'd like us to consider for inclusion, or want to be notified when the book is finished and available for sale, we'd love to hear from you!
